La Cabaña masterfully combines local ingredients and Mexican flavours in a rollicking setting, with excellent Margaritas to boot.
A busy taqueria and bar with a leafy outdoor dining area, La Cabaña has the vibe set to casual and relaxed at all times. And, given how packed the place gets (and how noisy it gets) Fremantle is obviously here for it. But it’s testament to the team that the service stays friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and ultra-efficient.
Don’t underestimate the appeal of excellent La Delizia stracciatella with salsa roja and crunchy kale – even if it’s not traditional, it sure is excellent.
On the plate there’s a range of ceviches, tacos, and small and large shared dishes, with whatever you order invariably coming faster than you might expect, but everything feels fresh and vibrant. Take the generous, well-balanced ceviche made with local white fish that hums with flavour – just be sure to ask for extra tostadas. Tacos are made with proper corn tortillas, the pulled chicken with piquant green mole a standout among other crowdpleasing options. If you’re a group, pick the pull-apart braised beef cheeks to spread over tortillas with friends. Mexican-inspired cocktails and tequilas form most of the drinks menu, alongside Mexican beers, non-alcoholic options and a small selection of WA wines by the bottle or glass. A list, like the venue, for all comers. But still, when the Margaritas are this good, if you’re not drinking one, you’re doing it wrong.
