The West Australian Good Food Guide (WAGFG) is the state’s ultimate guide to the best hospitality, with a mission to share unparalleled experiences with our readers. We do this through an annual guide to restaurants, bars, pubs and breweries, a prestigious awards programme, and more.

We provide insightful editorial and news content year-round, and our annual events programme ranges from curated dining series to cooking schools with Australia’s top chefs. We also manage an exciting partnership program with like-minded brands and organisations.

WAGFG Stays, launched in April 2024 is our recognition of the excellence in the West Australian accommodation sector, from five-star city luxury to vineyard stays, and secluded eco-cabins. A platform that integrates into our coverage of the food and drink scene it serves both visitors from out of state, and well-travelled West Australians.

Our annual and much anticipated awards night celebrates Western Australia’s Top 100 restaurants, along with its best bars, pubs, breweries, and drinks. A celebration of our rich food and drink culture, our suite of awards includes Chef of the Year, Restaurant of the Year, as well as recognising emerging talent.

Captured in an annual print edition, housed on our site, and increasingly expressed through social media, we are multi-platform to our core. While our origin is the annual guide, we leverage our digital presence to provide regular coverage of new openings and the goings-on in the West Australian food and drink scene.

WAGFG understands that a key ingredient to our state’s outstanding culinary reputation is our diverse community of growers and producers whether that be those harvesting seafood in the North West, growing truffles in the Southern Forests, or our world renowned winemakers, distillers and brewers across the South West. We cover thousands of kilometres on land and sea each year in pursuit of those stories.

With a proud history of independence, our lists are overseen by an expert team comprising some of the country’s most experienced food and drink writers, as well as seasoned industry professionals, all working to strict criteria, narrowing the field to the best of the best.

Our Guide Editor, Max Brearley has experience at top tier national and international mastheads, having reviewed restaurants, pubs and bars for over fifteen years in the UK and across Australia. WAGFG is proud to foster homegrown talent from writers to our wine, beer, and spirits panels.

Complementing our diverse team we also engage national and internationally known writers such as Nick Ryan (senior wine writer, The Australian), Erin Larkin (Robert Parker Wine Advocate), Mike Bennie (wine writer, judge, host and festival director), Besha Rodell (chief restaurant critic, The Age), David Matthews (formerly guide editor of WAGFG and Gourmet Traveller), Alexandra Carlton (Oceania, Academy Chair of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants) and Matthew Evans (renowned writer, farmer, and former restaurant critic).

WAGFG is driven by a love for Western Australian hospitality, and by the aim to be an effective marketing platform for WA hospitality venues, to inspire excellence in the industry and to achieve enhanced commercial success for the WA industry at large.

We are an increasingly rare thing: an expert voice.
