The 2018 The West Australian Good Food Guide is the most exciting in our short 10-year history. There have been so many changes in the hospitality sector with external factors like labour costs and a gentle upswing in the economy bringing both optimism and caution in equal measure.

We are continuing our winning strategy of taking the Good Food Guide further into the digital space with a strong focus in 2018-19 on a raft of marketing activities to ensure our popular and authoritative website gains a greater audience both domestically, Australian-wide and internationally. This year, we have made a few changes. We now have a Top 100 list made up of the premier Top 50 Restaurant list and our expanded Top 25 Best Casual Dining and Top 25 Best Bars lists.

In terms of our reviewing and editing processes, we continue to assert our authority as the leading resource in Western Australia for the dining public with an unimpeachable reviewing model whereby all reviews are done in secret, no money or other inducements from restaurants are sought or accepted and, where required, reviews are double- and sometimes triple-checked by our editorial team.

In terms of rankings, it’s important to point out that there are no losers in The West Australian Good Food Guide Top 50. If a venue doesn’t stack up, it doesn’t make the Guide. With more than 3000 restaurants in WA, the Top 50 represents just 1.6 percent of all venues – in other words, the cream of the crop; the very best.

The West Australian is delighted to recommend to the dining public each of the restaurants and bars in this Guide. While we stand behind every restaurant in our lists, where there are small faults in either food, service or wine list, we mention these in the review in the interests of full disclosure.

As always, we don’t write for chefs or restaurant owners or advertisers, the Good Food Guide is a consumer publication, written by experts and providing that most elusive of things, expert advice and commentary. Reviews are completely independent of advertising content.
