The Producer Of The Year Award celebrates those businesses that produce the meats, fish, game and fruits and vegetables for our best restaurants. Without first rate produce, our best restaurants are nothing.
The Producer Of The Year award is the only WA Good Food Guide award bestowed on its winner by a vote of WA’s top chefs. They were sent a survey asking them to rank their top three suppliers. Halls Family Dairy was top of the pops for chefs, who have fallen in love with their exceptional dairy products.
Their product – created as part of a vertical integration strategy born of a need to escape the strangle hold that supermarkets have on the dairy industry – is just that…one product. The family has created a remarkably close approximation of the famous Pont Leveque cheese, made traditionally in Normandy – creamy, rich, mildly stinky and wonderful.
It is also a story of the grit, determination and intelligence of a multi-generational farming family who after many years of planning, herd management and the creation of the only Normande breed herd in Australia, made its first commercially viable artisanal cheese in late 2018.
