Looking for a fix near or far? Here’s where to get yours.

Filter, flat white, long-mac, oat milk, cow or almond, coffee is a personal affair. Still, there are plenty of places that lead the pack when it comes to the roast, the pour or the brew.

First on the list? Howard’s Groove (22 Howard St, Perth), the retro-styled CBD venture, which delivers with consistency, precision and a smile. There’s plenty of choice around the city, though, with long-term players Offshoot (Shop 2/480 Hay St, Perth) and Telegram Coffee (State Buildings, corner St Georges Tce and Barrack streets, Perth) rightfully popular choices. La Veen (79B King St, Perth), meanwhile, has reopened in smaller digs, but the results are just as reliable. Community Coffee Co. has two shops in town, but it’s the food truck at its Subiaco venue (292a Barker Rd, Subiaco) that’s drawing the most interest. Then Hemingway Cafe (2/152-158 St Georges Tce, Perth) and Arlo (137 St Georges Tce, Perth) remain the standouts of the Mo Espresso dynasty.

Osborne Park roastery Micrology (1/58 Collingwood St, Osborne Park) offers arguably Perth’s best coffee-bar experience, but Twin Peaks (U11/28 Rudloc Rd, Morley) is a regular haunt for many in the know.

Modus (Mount Lawley; Victoria Park; Wembley) continues to offer outstanding service, while Daylight Coffee Roasters opened hole-in-the-wall Parkside Coffee (2 Church St, Perth) in picturesque Stuart Street Reserve. Mount Hawthorn’s Nu Noir Coffee Boutique (377 Oxford St, Mt Hawthorn), meanwhile, pitches professionals and serious enthusiasts.

Filter is getting more love, especially at Willing Coffee (110 Terrace Rd, Guildford) and sibling The Deli on Central (181 Central Ave, Perth) with a network of accomplished roasters and a top-class house blend.

Satchmo (1/400 Fitzgerald St, North Perth), Stomp Coffee (39 Angove St, North Perth) and Hank’s Corner (64a Scarborough Beach Road, North Perth) in North Perth are delightful in different ways. High Noon Saloon (8/22 St Quentins Ave, Claremont) and Forklore (Shop 11-12, City West Centre, 102 Railway St, West Perth) make the best of Five Senses. Dine by Arrival Hall (162 Aberdeen St, Northbridge) and Café Leadman (159 Claisebrook Rd, Perth) fly under the radar. Lady Annie (4/672 Beaufort St, Mount Lawley) is a strong newcomer and Viaje (8/609 Beaufort St, Mount Lawley; and South Perth) receives much-deserved attention. Giant Coffee (Shop 6a, 109 James St, Northbridge) in Northbridge is tricky to find but definitely worth seeking out.

In Fremantle? It has to be Ooh Coffee (255 Queen Victoria St, North Fremantle) or Best Wishes (9/2 Cantonment St, Fremantle), which both excel.

In the regions? Try Townhouse (Bunbury), Alberta’s (Busselton), Bred Co (Albany), Southern Roasting Co. (Manjimup), Merchant & Maker (Dunsborough), Margaret River Roasting Co. (Vasse) and Quiet Life Specialty Coffee (Geraldton).
