TRIBE Perth

When you walk into a hotel foyer and see it packed with locals who aren’t guests, but are there to eat, meet, set up the laptop and soak up the atmosphere, you know it’s doing something right.

TRIBE has that brief nailed.

What lures creatives, executives and dreamers here from all over the city is partially the hyper-luxe decor: crayon-coloured graphic sofas, terrazzo tiles, Klieg lights angled across the ceiling. It’s also the café-cum-bar that serves up coffee in the morning, cocktails in the evening, and grab-and-go snacks whenever you need them. But, more than anything, it’s an intangible feeling that this is a place where work and play blend beautifully into one.

If you’re fortunate enough to be toting your suitcase for an overnight stay, the rooms are small but perfectly formed. Each has just enough space for a bed, a bathroom and brilliant views across the city and Kings Park next door. Every room is painted in its own pink, green, blue or white scheme – and those in the know say that light, bright, white walls and greenery views make the TRIBE Kings Park View Room the one to earmark if you can.

Whether you’re staying or just playing, and even if you’ve travelled from the other side of the globe, a visit to TRIBE Perth is a way to live like a local, if only for a little while.

Need to Knows

  • 123 rooms (TRIBE Kings Park View Room, TRIBE City West View Room, TRIBE Standard Room).
  • Check-in: 2pm; Check-out 11am.
  • On-site parking is subject to availability and by request only.
  • There’s a 24-hour social hub for meetings, work and play. On-site restaurant TRIBE Table serves breakfast, all-day snacks and evening cocktails and eats. Complimentary bikes are also available to guests.

What’s There

The beauty of TRIBE is that it has everything you need and none of the frills or trappings you won’t use. Rooms may be just 18 square metres, but let’s face it – you’re in town to do much more exciting things than sleep. The hotel’s beating heart is a 24-hour social hub on the ground floor, where you can grab coffee and pastries or a full breakfast spread in the morning, a light snack throughout the day, and dinner and drinks at night.

What’s Around

Everyone in Perth says Kings Park is always moments away, but here it’s mere footsteps. Cross the road and you can wander its many bike, jogging and walking trails all the way to the Swan River for an uplifting way to start the day.

What’s Super Special

Lots of hotels fill their common spaces with furnishings that look fun but can lean a little on the cheap and nasty side. Every single element and detail here, meanwhile, was hand-picked by TRIBE’s visionary co-founders, Mark and Melissa Peters, resulting in a space that’s anything but ordinary. Keep an eye out for the sprawling, sapphire-hued sofa just past the reception desk as you enter; it’s the height of lush luxury.

Children

The compact rooms aren’t exactly ideal for families, and minors aren’t permitted in a room of their own, but children are welcome as long as they share a bed with parents or guardians.

Eating and Drinking

Buffet-style and à la carte breakfast are served in the café each morning, and there are grab-and-go sandwiches and salads available throughout the day, either from the fridge in the foyer or via room service. Cocktail service begins at 3pm (we recommend the gin-based ‘Love Sparkle’) and things turn Southern and saucy in the evenings, with American-style eats like Cajun fried chicken and nachos on from 4.30pm. External visitors can dine till 9.30pm, but the bar remains open later if you’re staying in-house.

Things to Book

The team at the front desk is always available to organise Rottnest Island adventures or Swan Valley wine tours with boutique operator dVine.

Notes

The rainbow-bright foyer level isn’t just for snacking and catch-ups; it can also be transformed into a high-energy events space with access to the leafy outdoor courtyard. It cries out for creative conferences, parties and other special occasions.
