Perth & Surrounds

The Marina Hotel

The Marina Hotel feels like a nod to a bygone era of salty, sun-kissed Australian beachside holidays.

Not that it’s a kitschy, retro place to stay, mind you. Here, the mood across the 18 rooms is decidedly relaxed and understated, calling on a sandy colour scheme and timber furniture to drive home that coastal sensibility. Want to experience it firsthand? Just slip out onto your own private tiled balcony, and you’ll be met with views of the many boats in the still waters of The Marina.

From the selection of multi-room suites to the on-site pool surrounded by loungers and for-hire cabanas, your needs are covered regardless of whether it’s a family getaway, work trip or romantic escape. There’s virtue aplenty in holing up here for a few days, no doubt, but action is never far away; descend onto the boardwalk, and you’ll find a hub of activity right at your fingertips. If you’re in the mood to explore a little further, bikes for hire are available at The Marina, and hotel staff will happily provide a map of local paths and trails that allow you to explore the nearby coastline. Perth may only be 30 minutes south by car, but it won’t take long for it to feel like a lifetime away.

What’s There

For those lucky enough to be in possession of their own boat, casual berth rentals are available along The Marina and bookings can be made through the hotel. Sail your vessel right up to the boardwalk, step off the deck and right into your private suite for the ultimate in luxe holiday experiences. Head downstairs, and you’ve got a slew of cafés, restaurants and bars at your disposal, all boasting incredible waterfront views and fresh ocean air.

What’s Around

The Marina is also home to a number of retail stores and local businesses. Pamper yourself at Alannah Lee Beauty or The Keys Hair Studio, or explore the exquisitely cultivated selection of wares on offer at The Little Artisan Gift Co.

What’s Super Special

The trip to Mindarie is worth it for the ocean views alone. To make the most of it, settle on your balcony in the late afternoon, and watch the sun dip slowly into the sea behind the rows of luxury boats.

Children

Not only does the hotel cater to families with its two- and three-bedroom suites, but the amenities also allow parents time for a quick drink while the kids are preoccupied.

Eating and Drinking

You’re not short on places for a glass of wine or frothy pint. Independently owned Indian Ocean Brewing Co serves up a core range of craft and small-batch seasonal beers, alongside piping hot pizzas, steaks and other time-tested favourites. The Boat, meanwhile, offers a more relaxed atmosphere and a menu stacked with pub classics to accompany its list of local wines, beers and ciders. Life Boat, a seasonal and family-friendly bar and eatery, keeps it similarly simple with a short, seafood-heavy menu comprising the likes of tacos and local fish and chips. And, if the mood is set to fruity cocktails and freshly shucked oysters by the pool, look no further than Cabana Pool Bar. Come morning, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to coffee; Sistas Mindarie offers incredible views and creative takes on breakfast staples, while Union Kitchen skews a little more traditional and has the bonus of a dedicated dog menu.

Things to Book

For those without their own vessel, Mindarie Charters offers sea jaunts for even the most novice of fisherfolk. Join a fishing charter to experience the local waters and (hopefully) return with your own catch thanks to the tips and tricks of seasoned professionals.

Notes

If the extensive dining options and aquatic activities at The Marina aren’t enough to entertain the family, nearby Yanchep National Park – just 20 minutes away by car – offers incredible walking trails and wildlife sighting opportunities.
