Our edit for everywhere to seek out a brew in 2024.

The essential coffee spots in WA? It’s a crowded horse race, with strong contenders in all corners of the state. Manjimup’s Southern Roasting Co deserves praise for its hands-on approach, as does Margaret River Roasting Co over in Vasse. There’s more that’s worthy in the South West, too, from Busselton’s charming Little Peach Espresso to Merchant & Maker in Dunsborough.

Further north, The Townhouse takes top honours in Bunbury, while Quiet Life Coffee brews the cup to beat in Geraldton and Guildford’s Willing Coffee takes top honours for the Swan Valley. Down Fremantle way, Ooh Coffee and Best Wishes continue to fly the flag, as does the raft of reliable mainstays in Perth’s CBD – Smooth Operator and sibling Howard’s Groove, along with Offshoot Coffee, Telegram Coffee, La Veen Coffee and Mo Espresso. Two new additions nearby – Giant Coffee and Parkside Coffee – have shaken up the inner- city scene, as well.

Elsewhere, the usual suspects remain at the top of their game, with pint-sized Myrtle Ivy leading the charge in West Leederville alongside Mount Lawley’s Bossman Coffee. In North and South Perth, look no further than Stomp Coffee and Viaje Coffee, respectively.

There’s first-class roasting going on all over town as well, at Osborne Park’s Darkstar Coffee Roasters and Micrology Coffee Roasters in addition to the numerous outposts of the Modus Coffee and Community Coffee empires. And while Artem Coffee and Humblebee Coffee play a smaller-scale game, the results are no less fine.
