PANEL DISCUSSION
Excellence in Drinks Service – A Front of House Panel
1pm Main Cinema, Luna Leederville

In the world of hospitality, the service of drinks is an art that extends beyond simply pouring from bottle to glass. It involves understanding a guest’s preferences and creating a journey that complements their dining experience. As drinks continue to play an integral role in our dining culture, the conversation around how we serve it, present it, and talk about it with guests becomes even more essential.

Join Emma Farrelly, Director of Wine and Beverages at State Buildings, for an engaging discussion with high-profile stars within Western Australia’s hospitality scene. The all-star cast features Ben Wood (The Corner Dairy), Sophie Johnston (The State Buildings), Emma Ferguson (Vin Populi, No Mafia, and Balthazar), Cale Mason (Casa), Sally Lovell (Canteen Pizza and Il Lido) and other special guests to be announced. The panel will dive deep into the nuances of drinks service — discussing everything from the ethics of suggesting a bottle without mentioning the price to the art of upselling without overstepping.

Expect an insightful conversation that will challenge conventional thinking and promise to be lively and layered. A must-attend for anyone passionate about hospitality, customer experience, and the evolving culture of drinks within the hospitality industry.

PANEL DISCUSSION
The Future Of Drinking in Western Australia – 3pm
3pm Main Cinema, Luna Leederville

The future of drinking in Western Australia is rapidly evolving, shaped by changing consumer preferences, innovative production techniques, and a growing focus on sustainability and diversity. As such, understanding these trends and preparing for what’s next is crucial for the industry.

Renowned drinks expert and WAGFG Wine Panellist Mike Bennie will host this discussion that dives into these themes, bringing together industry leaders and visionaries for a masterclass on the Future of Drinking in WA. The panel will feature a dynamic group of experts from all realms of drinking. Esteemed wine writer and reviewer Erin Larkin will talk about the world of wine alongside Vanya Cullen of Wilyabrup’s renowned Cullen Wines and Richard Fennessy, grape and wine research scientist. Our very own head beer judge, Guy Southern, will cover all things brewing, while WAGFG Bartender of the Year Xander Stucken dives into distillation.

Each guest will bring unique insights to the table. The conversation will also include perspectives from a non-alcoholic standpoint, exploring how this growing segment fits into the future of beverages. Together, they will crystal ball the way Western Australians will be drinking in the years to come, offering a comprehensive look at trends, challenges, and opportunities in the market.

MOVIE SCREENING
Red Obsession (1hr 15mins)

France’s Bordeaux region has long commanded respect for its coveted wine, but shifts in the global marketplace mean that a new, voracious consumer base in China is buying up this finite product. Helmed by Australia’s most innovative and respected wine talent,
the 2024 WAGFG Wine Awards & Festival is further evolving in 2024 into a full-day event, with the awards being the event’s centrepiece, taking place in the main theatre at Luna Leederville
at 6:30 PM.

This is an event for anyone keen to learn more about West Australian wine, and we encourage the entire industry to attend.

Set to be a hot ticket for industry professionals and our readers keen to engage with West Australian wine culture, this one-day event includes our prestigious awards ceremony held at Luna Leederville Cinemas and a wider festival program brought to life in the various cinemas, as well as The Leederville Precinct, through the day and into the evening.

In typical WA Good Food Guide style, a fun networking party with excellent West Australian produce, music, and free-flowing drinks is included in the ticket price.

Alongside an evolving events program and a special WAGFG Top 25 wines tasting on the rooftop at The Leederville Precinct, there will be screenings of all-time great wine films, thought-provoking panel discussions, and pop-up wine events across Leederville.

Wine is an elemental part of the WA hospitality experience, from eating and drinking to touring our diverse and world-renowned wine regions. The awards spotlight the breadth and diversity of our wine talent and regions. In the lead-up to this event, our panel blind-tastes, benchmarks, discusses, debates, and re-tastes over 400 West Australian wines
to hone a selection of the Top 25 wines of the year.
