Many things make a restaurant romantic—warm ambiance, moody lighting, intimate share plates, and attentive service all play a part.
Whether it’s a special anniversary, a first date, or just an excuse for a night out with your person, these are the most romantic restaurants in Perth and WA.
Wines of While
Perched at the top end of Northbridge’s William Street is Wines of While, an ideal setting for a memorable date-night. The tables and chairs that spill out onto the footpath create a particularly Euro-inspired romanticism, especially on a balmy Perth evening. And they provide a fantastic vantage point for supreme people-watching, which can serve as convenient conversation starters should first-date jitters emerge. A superb way to start the date is to head inside and wander among the rows of shelves displaying wines available by the bottle; choose one together, then return to your table to order food.

La Lune
They say Paris is the city of love, so turn up the romance by heading to East Fremantle’s La Lune. Located on the vibrant George Street, the Parisian bistro is decidedly romantic with its French-inspired food menu, European wine and personable, attentive staff longing to ensure your date is an enjoyable one. Take a seat at one of the sun-drenched alfresco tables for an afternoon aperitif, or cosy up next to your date at one of the vibrantly-hued velvet booths inside.

La Lune
Fleur at The Royal
Housed within the heritage grandeur of The Royal Hotel, Fleur presents a dining experience that blends boldness and delicacy, contemporary flair and classic elegance. Under the meticulous guidance of head chef Logan Place, the menu showcases local produce through a European lens, allowing each ingredient to speak for itself. A highlight is the tableside crêpes suzette, available on Wednesday and Thursday evenings, where the theatrical preparation undoubtedly enhances the dining experience.
531 Wellington St, Perth
Balthazar
The experience of sharing in a traditional three-course structured meal exudes timeless old-school romance that is hard to find these days. But it’s exactly what you’ll find at Balthazar, a venue that has remained a stalwart of Perth’s ever-evolving dining scene since opening their doors in the 90s.
It’s hard to ignore the aphrodisiac lure of oysters dressed with peach and prosecco granita, but the wagyu tartare makes a tempting introduction of its own. From there, find duck breast classically served with orange, and fennel while kangaroo served with goats curd, fig and macadamia shines with European flair. Wine lists don’t come much better either, carefully curated by one of the city’s best, Emma Ferguson.

Vin Populi
While it would be ever so romantic to sweep someone away to Florence or Rome for a dinner date, it would be a very long (and very expensive) journey from WA. Luckily there is a little slice of Italy sitting right in the heart of Fremantle’s west end. Vin Populi has developed quite the reputation as one of Perth’s best restaurants. The menu—displayed only on a chalkboard—changes daily to accommodate seasonal produce and whatever has been caught out at sea that morning. The wine list is a celebration of both local and Italian varietals, and the staff are only too happy to help you choose a bottle based on your palette.
11 High Street, Fremantle
Wildflower
Perched atop the historic State Buildings, Wildflower offers a romantic dining experience that blends contemporary elegance with a profound connection to WA’s indigenous heritage. The seasonal degustation menu is a culinary journey through the six seasons of the Noongar calendar—Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba, and Kambarang—each dish meticulously crafted to reflect the land’s seasonal rhythms and local produce. Diners are treated to sweeping views of the Swan River and Perth’s skyline, enhancing the sensory experience. An extensive wine list, curated by the brilliant Emma Farrelly, features both local and international selections, complements the menu harmoniously.

The Heritage
For a breathtakingly elegant date night, The Heritage—a 1920’s brasserie meets contemporary wine bar—is a truly fine choice. Enter through the sandstone arches on St George’s Terrace, sashay across the Italian marble floor, and take a seat at one of the tables next to the floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the city. Once you’ve enjoyed your meal from the European-inspired menu and formidable wine list, escort your date downstairs for a night-cap at Bobeche. The sophisticated cocktail bar, set in The Heritage basement, oozes romance with its dim lights, cosy leather sofas and hand-crafted French pewter bar.

Lulu La Delizia
Sit inside Lulu La Delizia and warm wood, orb lighting and walls lined with wine makes for a classic, cosy atmosphere, while sitting al fresco will have you feeling as though you’re dining in a quaint piazza of a small Italian town.
Chef Joel Valvasori’s Italian heritage shines throughout the menu. Ordering bread to start is essential. Served with cultured butter and a spiced vegetable sugo, you’ll still be thinking about it while sharing a tiramisu with your partner come meal’s end. When it comes to pasta, expect something special. The simplistic beauty of the spaghetti is to be admired. Long, delicately sweet strands of Torbay asparagus vibrantly dwindle through perfectly al dente spaghetti specked with crisp guanciale and black pepper. The pasta of the day though is always worth scouting out.
As for what to drink? Let the knowledgeable and friendly team unpretentiously guide you through the predominately Italian wine list that encourages you to delve in and discover lesser-known varietals.

Casa
Mount Hawthorn’s Casa sets the scene for a date night that is equal parts chic and sultry.
At the helm, Paul Bentley delivers one of Perth’s most effortlessly cool menus. Stop by for a bistrot burger and a martini, or settle in with a selection of share plates that brim with bold flavour. The tuna crudo on tostadas is impossibly fresh, packing a zingy punch of aguachile, while pastas are playful and inventive—think baked pipe rigate in spicy vodka sauce or crab tonnarelli amped up with jalapeno butter.
Drinks bring the same energy. Order a vampiro—tequila blanco, grapefruit, sangrita, lime and chilli salt—to set the scene while you explore the impressive wall of wines.

Vincent Wine
A palpable sense of joie de vivre fills the air at Vincent Wine in the ever-trendy Upper Northbridge precinct. Under the glow of fairy lights, you are encouraged to embrace the European way—to share in good food and wine in good company.
With previous experience in the famed kitchen at Hélène Darroze at The Connaught Hotel in London, Head Chef Stephen Thompson showcases quality and locally sourced produce through European classics revitalised with modern twists. While charcuterie and polished snacks remain staple, more substantial plates—namely the steak frites—should not be overlooked. The chalk-written wine list perfectly resonates, dominated by European labels which lends itself to the option to splurge for date night.

Ah Um
Hiding at the back of Northbridge’s listening bar, Astral Weeks, is this innovative restaurant. Like its sister venue Astral Weeks, it takes sound very seriously—in fact, the owners have gone to great lengths to perfectly set up the acoustics with a custom audio set-up built specifically for the space. It’s all part of their belief that sound is part of the whole dining experience – in addition to the food, drinks and service.
As such, the restaurant soundtrack—which as you would imagine is amplified with crisp, meticulous clarity—is curated exclusively by the bar’s own digital radio station curated by musicians all over the globe, which includes long playlists created especially for the dining room. A truly unique and ambient date night indeed (and you can be sure your conversation won’t be drowned out by loud music.)
