Bullara Station
Bullara Station is a nature-based campground located approximately 45 minutes from Exmouth in Western Australia’s North. It’s a Stay defined by contrast: rustic yet refined, remote yet welcoming—and every bit as vivid as the red dirt and brilliant blue sky that frame it.
There’s a moment of disbelief as you transition from the vast, sun-bleached landscape into Bullara’s heartbeat—a station that feels more like a tiny, thriving town than a remote outpost. That shift from desert isolation to creative community is the first of many moments that will quietly reframe how you think about travel, connection, and country.
From the outset, Bullara surprises. Every corner of the station—from the bush showers to the plates of buttery pastry and scones—reflects care, tenacity and the joy of hosting from owners Tim and Edwina Shallcross. You arrive wondering how this exists out here; you leave hoping more people take the leap to build something this meaningful.
It’s a place where children dance together with new friends beneath star-filled skies. Where sheep nap in the sun and time slows to something softer. And where the sky turns into a gallery of light and colour—not something to capture, but something to carry home.

What’s There
Bullara encourages exploration, reflection and just enough adventure to awaken your senses. Start your day with one of the many 2.5km walking trails that crisscross the station—ideal for a morning stretch or a reflective stroll.
If you have a 4WD, head 22km out to the Exmouth Gulf. The viewing deck makes for a serene picnic spot, with the chance to spot turtles and a variety of birdlife where land meets sea.
The social heart of the property is The Woolshed, which transforms through the day—from relaxed breakfast café to pie haven at lunch, and finally, to a gathering place for live music and long-table feasting. The Local Joint Bar offers a surprisingly sophisticated beverage list and a strong sense of community.
Positioned centrally, Bullara is within an hour’s drive of some of Western Australia’s most spectacular beaches and national parks.
What’s Around | Eating and Drinking
The region surrounding Bullara offers a dramatic sweep of coast and country worth exploring. Just nearby is Shothole Canyon, a rugged, lesser-known gorge that rewards those who venture off the main road. Charles Knife Road offers one of the best sunrise and sunset lookouts in the state, with a winding drive and views that stretch far across the Exmouth Gulf.
Cape Range National Park is also within easy reach—ideal for a day trip of hiking, wildlife spotting or simply wandering through ancient gorges and along pristine beaches. For those drawn to the ocean, Ningaloo Reef is the crown jewel of the area—an underwater sanctuary teeming with coral, turtles, and, in season, whale sharks. Closer to home, the Exmouth Gulf Track offers excellent fishing and the kind of quiet solitude that makes the region unforgettable.
What’s Super Special
The outdoor Lava Tree Showers are an unforgettable way to end the day — open-air bathing beneath desert skies, often bathed in golden light.
Then there are the animals. From the moment you pass through the gates, you’re likely to be greeted by goats or cattle wandering freely. Watch as Gypsy and Buckley emerge from their cosy “car barn,” or spot Scratchy the bull among the Droughtmaster cows — the quiet heart of the station’s beef operation. The animals are observed, not interrupted — a gentle reminder that we are guests here.
Equally special is the food — not just nourishing, but deeply expressive of place. At the centre is husband and wife team chef Toby Fisher, whose creativity and precision drive the entire experience, supported by his wife, Head Pastry chef Maree Fisher, whose presence is felt in every detail. Together, they’ve built something far beyond a camp kitchen.
Their influence runs through every meal — from the curated drinks list to breakfast, lunch and, most notably, The Table. This signature dining experience is a reason alone to visit: generous, thoughtful, and rooted in the land. It’s a testament to what’s possible when passion meets purpose in the outback.
Children
Outside of the more remote (adults-only) safari tents, Bullara is a natural playground for children. It’s the kind of place where you can “let kids can be kids”–where they can ride freely on pushbikes, and gather nightly around the fire with new friends. Screen time disappears into the landscape, replaced by genuine connection and freedom.
Breakfast
From 7am daily at the Woolshed, guests can enjoy coffee by WA’s Leftfield Roasters and a nourishing breakfast offering: chia puddings, juices, kombucha, sausage rolls wrapped in buttery pastry, and of course, Bullara’s now-famous scones with jam and cream—light, airy and just the right amount of indulgent. Come hungry.
Eating and Drinking
Lunch is defined by pies—not just good pies, but among the best you’ll find in WA. Expect a rotating menu from classic Bullara steak to cauliflower and cheese, all housed in crisp, golden pastry.
Friday nights are festive and unmissable: it’s Burger Night at the Woolshed, complete with live music and an atmosphere that pulses with warmth and community.
On the remaining nights, the Table Dining Experience curated by Toby and Maree Fisher is a standout—a multi-course, station-grown celebration of seasonal produce, regeneratively farmed proteins, and flavours with real soul. Expect house-raised beef, locally caught fish, and generous shared sides.
The drinks list is equally considered: WA beers from Whalebone and Beerfarm sit alongside non-alcoholic favourites like Heaps Normal and NON. The wine list leans West Australian, with highlights including an Oates End Tempranillo and a Marsanne-Roussanne from Lillian in Pemberton. For something special, explore the “Finest by the Bottle” list—which extends to a 2015 Frankland Estate Isolation Ridge Riesling.
On Saturday through Wednesday evenings, a refined grazing board (designed in collaboration with David Coomer and Gavin Booth of Hound and Hunter) is served from 4pm. Come June, truffles begin to feature.
