Bina Maya
If you wanted to characterise the experience and the feel of a stay at Bina Maya, it would be one word – thoughtful.
The purpose-built villas are in tune with where they are. Being in a bushland setting, nature is all around, and you have (almost always) a sight line to the trees. You’ll find spacious built in window seats and bedrooms configured to face the view – almost cinema-like in scope. These are perhaps the bigger details that have been worked out architecturally but then there’s the smaller details, which add texture to a stay, making it feel like a home away from home – or perhaps that your infinitely cooler mate has lent you their place for the week. There’s living house plants, not fake plastic trees; solid modern furniture and an array of blankets, throws and cushions that up the comfort level, without ever feeling like clutter; yoga mats propped in the corner, just in case; Sonos speakers that are a step above in the sound department; a well-curated selection of cookbooks and quality magazines, well-thumbed for a reason, and a little clue (for those lovers of Through The Keyhole) that owner Sara Greay is a bit of a foodie. A fact that’s carried through to the well-appointed kitchens. Spacious and well designed, they offer a place for some to cook and for others to perch. You’ll find a pantry stocked with ground coffee, including decaf, popping corn for a movie night, spices, herbs, sauces, good local olive oil, vinegars and quality pink salt. You may not want to leave.

What’s There
Bina Maya is on 8 acres of native bushland, where you’ll see birdlife and kangaroos, a view of the Indian Ocean can be glimpsed from parts of the property. In house wellness experiences can take your stay to a new level of relaxation. You might opt for a full body massage, a classic facial or a mix of the two. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned yogi, there are options to have in-house guided yoga sessions – both yin and hatha.
What’s Around
In the Noongar language ‘Bina’ means ‘light of the morning’ and ‘Maya’ means house. The name is a respectful nod to Wadandi country and a culture that spans millennia. For those that want to engage more with culture, there’s Ngilgi Cave with its ‘ancient lands experience’, and operators like Koomal Dreaming who offer a number of tailored experiences that connect with culture. Yallingup Aboriginal Art is part of the Bina Maya family. They exhibit and sell contemporary Aboriginal works of fine art. It’s a great way to interact with Indigenous culture, with works so often being tied to nature and country. You’ll find the story behind every piece from local Noongar artists, to works from the Gascoyne Region, Western Desert, Central Australia, APY lands and North Queensland. As well as original works, limited edition prints, books, jewellery, and other items are also sold.
Breakfast
For those that like nothing better than pottering around the kitchen on a day off there’s the option to fire up the coffee machine, and having stocked up, whip up your breakfast opus. You could also take the quicker, easier but no less delicious route of preordering a breakfast box.(enough to carry you through your stay or just the first morning depending on appetite). Repeat guests get this as a little reward for coming back. In under 10 minutes you can also be dining at Lagoon in Yallingup, or local favourite Goanna Bush Café.
Children
Bina Maya is perfect for young families and close to the beach.
Eating and Drinking
Being in the Margaret River Region you’re never far away from good food, with some of the State’s best restaurants close by. For lunch there’s the likes of Wills Domain, Chow’s Table and Masseria, while in Dunsborough Yarri, Blue Manna Bistro and Lady Lola are all options that are great for an evening out. Bina Maya has also worked with a number of private chefs from nationally renowned Fervor for larger groups to individual chefs who will cater for one or two guests at a time. Coming back to the word thoughtful, there is an option to have your fridge stocked with meals on arrival or to take away (dinner sorted when you get home). This isn’t just grab and go meals but chef prepared options from Goanna Gallery Café. Think butter chicken, lamb rogan josh or hearty meatballs. The ultimate in comfort and self-care.
