Everyone deserves a local café that punches above its weight and gives its surrounding neighborhoods a place to eat and drink and meet with friends. It should be fun, accessible and renowned for coffee and cake service and big breakfast to feed everybody from surfer dudes to mums who lunch. Voyage does all this and more. It’s cooking has punters driving from far and wide. Its communal table – littered with newspapers – is the perfect perch for mums with prams and solo diners. And then there’s the sparkling views of the Indian Ocean.

While the breakky menu has all the usual suspects every dish is cooked and plated with the upmost care. Trout and herb omelette with fetta and fresh herbs came underneath a crunchy vege salad – a fab dish that sits firmly in the brunch category (Perthites love their brunch). Lunches are more substantial – think ragu, grilled fish and curry — and its dinner specials are too good to miss. If it’s not your local, the drive’s worth it.
