You know what? This bar is indeed the standard. Bar entrepreneur John Parker’s well positioned and sunny bar on Roe Street is an exemplar, a standard bearer if you will, for all that is good and fun and welcoming about an inner urban bar.
The food here, by chef Chase Weber, makes it one of our best restaurants.
You can’t go past the Korean barbecue chicken grill or the miso buttered mushrooms, with scallop potatoes and wakame seasoning: they are seriously some of the best plates in P-Town.
Its cocktail and wine programs make it one of our best bars. Try any one of the six barrel-aged negronis on offer, or perhaps the more delicate Elder Fashioned (vodka, St Germain and coconut syrup) is up your alley.
The ambience of The Standard’s leafy courtyard and pop-up style container bar ensure it is one of the most cheerful and summery spots in the city. And its central location on Roe Street makes it one of the easiest waterholes to get to and chill for an hour or two or an afternoon.
On second thoughts: we think it’s the Gold Standard.
