A classic pub reborn with community and American barbecue at its heart.
While many pubs can boast a beer garden, how many also have a vaudeville theatre hall? Welcome to The Guildford. This heritage pub was for many years in limbo, a fire engulfing the historic structure back in 2008. But with a good deal of local campaigning, it has not only been saved but has risen phoenix-like to once again become a community gathering point. While you’ll find the standard pub menu items – chicken parmi, burgers, sangers and steaks – the star is the American barbecue. Brisket and ribs come from a smoker named Thomas that lives in the outdoor kitchen, while occy, cauliflower and all manner of skewers are cooked over coals. While you’ll find the expected taplist, their strong approach to cocktails is worth exploring.
