Amongst the vibrant community of South West breweries that has grown over the last few decades, there’s a common thread of being friendly not only to the craft beer fraternity but a wider demographic from (perhaps) an older drinker who still likes to sink a Swan or an Emu to punters who live a sober life, families, and those who won’t go anywhere without their four-legged mate. Shelter accommodates them all, as well as a massive seasonal tourist trade, being on the Busselton foreshore with a panoramic Indian Ocean outlook. Their core range is strong and no-nonsense, yet they have a knack for more experimental specials (Big Splash is their entry into the zero-alcohol segment). Equally solid is the output from one of Busselton’s hardest-working kitchens. Expect quality seafood – oysters, prawns, blue swimmer crab, squid, mussels – and classic pizzas. For those who like to have a nosey, this is a working brewery and tours are available twice a day, every day.
