Part of a trio of venues in the State Buildings, Petition Wine Bar and Merchant is nirvana for everyday wine lovers and serious eonophiles.

It’s a cosy vibe – dark timbers, wooden bar and windows over the Long Chim courtyard below. A handful of tables are ranged around shelves laden with wines ranging from easy drinkers to sophisticated and complex options. There’s a particular focus on niche organic and local small producers.

The by-the-glass list is curated by one of Perth’s finest sommeliers, Emma Farrelly. As expected it features the best Australian titles peppered with old world wines. A few beers and cocktails are thrown in for good measure.

A wine-friendly menu comes courtesy of Petition Kitchen and the food is dished up with equal aplomb. The beef tartare is our go to on the menu. For a small corkage fee, customers can buy anything off the shelves, and enjoy it over bar snacks and Petition’s small plates.
