A laidback local’s favourite, kicking goals from the brewery to the kitchen.

The essential elements of life down south are clearly in play here, and that’s perhaps why the locals love it. Of course, there’s a degree of the surf vibe – it’s Margaret River after all – and, with its proximity to the trails, also a good contingent of saddle-sore riders. The tiered beer garden is the place to be most of the year, with kids having space to maraud, and doggos most welcome. We’ve previously tipped the ‘order-on-repeat’ free-range chicken wings, and we still rate them highly, but ensure you don’t miss the likes of the long-standing cheeseburger roti (imagine a burger, no bun, pressed between two rotis), and the piled-high, Viet-inspired squid salad with peanuts, coriander and punchy nuoc mam dressing. Turning attention to the taps, the brewing for Margaret River Beer Co is now done across town but this is still the place for the freshest drops like Mer-Mid (hazy mid-strength) and In The Pines (hazy IPA). If there is a trick here, it’s to pay attention to the limited releases as this is likely the only place you’ll find them, and they’re here for a good time not a long time.
