Charming wine bar where the chilled red flows.

As overused terms go, ‘neighbourhood wine bar’ is up there but if any venue deserves the moniker, it’s this one. Lums would make a great neighbour, especially on a Sunday afternoon. It has girl-next-door charm, a warm heart, a hint of cheek, and a commitment to effortless wines. The walls have stories, too, from back when the space was Lums Grocery & General Store in the 1920s, and now, retaining the old shopfront, a hip wine bar. Staff bring an energy: laughing, chatting, keeping things light. Join in or don’t, but either way, they’re warm, knowledgeable and intuitive. On the wine front, there are more than 20 options by the glass – many of them chilled reds. You might go from light, juicy, low-extraction pinot noir by Somos to chocolate-cake-like shiraz from Don’t Tell Mum. If it’s chilled and red at Lum’s, it’s going to be good. Food keeps you lingering, from cured Skull Island Prawns to slow-cooked pork belly, but a Sunday flex by way of yuzu-ponzu oysters with agar pearls for a couple of bucks, is a real clincher.
