An icon of the Australian brewing scene gets a new Quay-side home.
It feels like Little Creatures is entering a new era in its home state as it clocks up a quarter of a century. Its new Fremantle home, due to open in 2026, will perhaps remind some of the role the brewery played in weaning West Australians off more basic brews while their latest outpost at Elizabeth Quay, opened in late 2025, feels like it could become a quintessential experience for visitors. A pint of pale ale for the purist in the greenhouse-like bar is one thing, but the view out to Spanda – the arched public artwork that is a central point for the Quay, which some call the ‘oyster shell thing’ – and the river beyond, is another. Taps are almost exclusively Little Creatures (obviously) but there’s a concession to an icon that it displaced for some – Swan Draught. Packaged beers from Beerfarm and Garage Project add interest, as does a reasonably sized cocktail list, and wines that are broadly Australian. Food is of the modern pub persuasion with some standout West Australian ingredients, from chargrilled Fremantle octopus to a crayfish roll that’s sure to do some heavy lifting, that prized WA catch on toasted brioche with pitch-perfect fries and pickles.
