A perennial neighbourhood favourite that skirts casual European taverna vibes and the best dinner party simultaneously.

Sit outside on a humid evening, sharing well-priced and flavoursome plates of Greek-inspired cuisine and you could almost trick yourself into thinking you were on an Athens backstreet, not Rokeby Road. It’s this laidback, unpretentious feel that has given Lady of Ro a loyal following for the past decade. The BYO-only policy is part of its charm, as is the feel of being at a friend’s dinner party – one who’s got their yiayia’s secret recipes. The food is homey and familiar, skewing broadly Mediterranean in places, and is designed to be shared, like the half chicken and spiced rice or the lamb chops served with saffron couscous and greek salad. The dishes are simple, but made with fresh, local ingredients, and everything on the menu will have you fighting over who gets the last morsel (seven pieces of the fan-favourite pumpkin ravioli with Kastellorizian stuffing per serving encourages a spar). Leave room for dessert, namely the souffra, a traditional Greek custard pie made with flaky pastry and served warm. Save yourself an airfare but make sure to book ahead.
