A landmark Fremantle brewery that’s truly welcoming to all.
While the brew kit in the historic A-Shed isn’t producing the commercial quantities of beer needed to stock pubs, bottlos, or Optus Stadium these days, it’s not merely a vanity piece. The Gage Roads brewing team use it for the ‘A Shed Series’, an experimental and seasonal range available exclusively at the Walyalup Waterfront. With that changing roster of tank fresh beer alongside the core range there’s always a new discovery on the horizon. And for those who want to gen-up on their brewing knowledge, tours are available Wednesday to Sunday. Gage Roads has always excelled when it comes to their laidback culinary offering, very much in line with the surfy-come-coastal ethos that permeates everything they do. The snapper tacos are something of a rusted-on classic these days, while fish and chips and Freo go hand in hand. The ‘family feast carne asada’ – a one kilo T-Bone with chimichurri – is a perfect sharer and points to the ‘kids and doggos welcome’ vibes here. Mention the Gage Roads playground to parents (which features an old crayfish boat upcycled into a jungle gym, fireman’s pole and a spacious sandpit) and their eyes will light up at the prospect of children being occupied while beers are being enjoyed.
