A keen eye for details, pints and pies, you’ll want to make this you’re regular if not your local.

At first sight, this Northbridge watering hole could fall into either the bar or pub bracket; a neighbourhood joint where a pint of Guinness and a seat at the bar is likely to come with  conversation, especially in the later hours. TARDIS-like, the venue stretches back into a beer garden to the rear, ideal for a weekend session or a Sunday roast. To fully understand Edward & Ida’s is to know that it’s a sibling venue to Foxtrot Unicorn (note the late-night jaffle menu) and Nieuw Ruin in Fremantle. With that in mind, you won’t be surprised to find a compact wine and cocktail list that covers any mood, and a kitchen under the guidance of executive chef Blaze Young (Chef of the Year 2025). Think house-made pies and a curried scotch egg that show a respect for technique and tradition. Or pop in for one of Perth’s truly great snacks – a crisp leek and curry leaf hash-brown which, although it would work as is, comes topped with beef tartare and an egg yolk jam that pushes it into ‘one is never enough’ territory.
