Details are at the heart of this long-serving bolthole. Down dimly lit, time-worn stairs, you find an elaborate and lavishly stocked bar of ornate French pewter, setting the scene (the same style gracing wine-focused sibling The Heritage Wine Bar & Restaurant one floor above). Though the bar’s aesthetic says 1920s glamour, the cocktails and sharply dressed bartenders are modern in approach to flavour and service. Cocktails are playful, well-crafted and approachable, swinging from tried-and-tested favourites like espresso martinis to the tart and refreshing Pineapple Pauline, with pineapple, rum, Amaro Montenegro, passionfruit and lime. Iced tea is a house specialty, designed for sharing complete with dainty teacups. At a bar that goes until midnight, snacks are essential – graze on charcuterie and other usual suspects; err to the cheeseburger or an unlikely but inspired meeting of Greek and Indian cuisine with lamb shoulder samosas dipped in sharp tzatziki.
