Bert’s City Beach
As summer swells on the horizon, Bert’s City Beach emerges as a new local for wave-chasers with salt-stiffened hair and diners who love their cocktail served with a sunset.
Bert’s revives the laid-back charm of the former 1950s surfside kiosk, Bert’s Shop, a humble surfside kiosk where City Beach locals lingered over ice creams and shared tales from the waves. Brought to life by the team behind The Rowing Pavilion and General Public Food Co., this beachfront gem marries a welcoming, sandy-feet ethos with a refined redesign – look out for unique whispers of its seaside legacy.
The menu celebrates Western Australia’s bounty through share plates like Shark Bay tiger prawns laced with chimichurri and creamy La Delizia burrata. For heartier fare, visit pub classics and pizzas with harissa lamb shoulder. Garlic prawns with chimichurri hit the spot for beachgoers seeking lean, clean eating.
The wine selection spotlights local favourites: McHenry Hohnen, Voyager Estate, and Domaine Naturaliste, with taps predominantly flowing with surfer Mick Fanning’s Balter Brewing Co. beers. Very fitting for the coastal crowd.

Coming Soon: Baillee Hill
Opening later this year, Baillee Hill is set to breathe new life into the site of WA’s first specialist maternity hospital in East Victoria Park. More than just a venue, it’s an entire precinct—home to a pub, café, bakery, gelateria, green spaces, nature playgrounds, artist studios, a museum space, and even a farmers’ market.
Designed with connection in mind, the precinct unfolds across open parkland and centres around the heritage-listed Elizabeth Baillee House, thoughtfully restored by Benson Studio and Griffiths Architects. “This is a space built for families, creatives, neighbours and visitors alike,” says General Manager Dane Oddy.
The project is led by Carl Leembruggen—owner of The Leederville Precinct and a local of East Vic Park—who brings both hospitality know-how and a deep connection to the neighbourhood. “It’s not just about what’s on offer, it’s about how the space brings people together,” he says. “This is a love letter to East Vic Park.”
Address: 15 Hill View Terrace, East Victoria Park
North 54
After a run of Sunday services at Doubleview Bowls Club, Bac Pham’s Vietnamese pop-up North 54 has found a permanent home in Leederville.
The menu still riffs on Pham’s heritage—with a few nods to his time in Thailand—serving up not-so-traditional banh mis, rice and noodle bowls, and flavour-charged snacks. Lamb “Xiu Mai” meatballs, son-in-law eggs, and smoky gai yang chicken keep things playful, familiar, and deeply satisfying.
It’s a daytime-only offering for now, but a BYO license and some juicy collabs are on the horizon.
Read our full interview with Bac to learn more about the leap from pop-up to permanent, the influence of family on his menu, and the dishes he thinks you shouldn’t leave without trying.
Address: 253A Oxford Street, Leederville

Coccodrillo Pizza & Vino
From Pappagallo’s Nino La Verghetta, Coccodrillo Pizza & Vino landed in Cottesloe earlier this year—and it didn’t take long to outgrow the space.
Proving a hit with the western suburbs crowd, the venue is already expanding. The Napoleon Street Negroni Bar will become the main restaurant in August, while the original Station Street venue will shift its focus to takeaway and private functions.
The menu stays put, so you can stick with the classics from the Pizze Rosse or Bianche menus, or lean into the more unconventional Pizze Gourmet line. Think bases made with carrot, beetroot or chickpea purée, topped with house-made soy ricotta, black sesame and more. They’re the work of head chef Romolo Gargarella, an Alma alumnus, and well worth exploring.
Address: 29 Napoleon Street, Cottesloe

Kalye Filipino Streats
From Arldee Indoy and Eloise Bayaras, Kalye Filipino Streats opened in June and wasted no time making an impression. Filipino food is still relatively underrepresented in Perth, so a venue celebrating traditional street eats—done with care and confidence—is a welcome addition.
Expect deeply flavourful dishes like Pares, a soy-braised beef broth served with roasted bone marrow; smoky chicken inasal straight off the grill; and adobo snake beans, a punchy take on a comfort classic.
Address:8/189 William St, Northbridge

Spice Ramen Ten and Sen
The team behind Rojiura Curry Samurai has expanded its footprint with Spice Ramen Ten and Sen in Leederville. Inspired by Hokkaido’s signature miso ramen, the bowls here go a step further—layered with spice-blending techniques honed through years of soup curry mastery. The result? Deep, rich broth with a proper kick—something rare in Perth’s ramen scene.
There’s more beyond the noodles too, with Hokkaido-style small plates and a drinks list that blends local and Japanese picks. Tucked into a cosy spot on Newcastle Street, it’s one for the ramen purists and spice lovers alike.
Address: 747 Newcastle Street, Leederville

Light Years
Popular East Coast restaurant Light Years has brought its modern Asian menu to the heritage-listed 140 William Street precinct in Perth’s CBD.
Culinary director Robbie Oijvall’s menu showcases the venue’s iconic dishes—think kingfish ceviche with coconut, chilli, and kaffir lime; crispy masterstock pork belly; and miso corn ribs—plus a lineup of new creations like ginger and shallot lobster dumplings, lemongrass pork shumai, and lobster noodles with laksa bisque.
Logan Bendeich’s wine list features local WA producers alongside wines from further afield, each chosen with the menu’s punchy flavours in mind, while the cocktails are bright, bold, and beautifully crafted.
The space itself is a masterclass in design. Will Rathgeber of Studio Plenty and Sarah Ellison have infused the venue with a sophisticated edge while paying homage to its historic surrounds. The result? A sleek yet effortlessly cool venue, perfect for a night out in the city.
Address: 140 William Street, Perth

Charim
Charim opened in late 2024, marking chef-owner Hyun Cha’s Perth debut after nearly two decades behind the pans in Sydney. Tucked into a small, walk-in-only space on William Street in Perth, it seats just 12 tables and centres around a focused, share-style set menu.
There are four mains to choose from—wagyu bulgogi, bibimbap, osam bulgogi (a sweet pork and squid stir-fry), and jeyuk (spicy pork)—each served with rice, soup, and your pick of three from seven rotating banchan (seasonal condiments, ferments and side dishes).
For those keen to explore beyond the set, there’s more to discover—but don’t skip the bossam. The slow-cooked pork, wrapped in crisp lettuce and topped with your choice of banchan, is a standout.
Address: 7/375 William Street, Perth

Monelli
Meaning mischievous rascals, Monelli brings a creative spin to coastal Italian flavours in Burns Beach. Opening its doors in March, this new spot is the vision of husband-and-wife duo Ezio Patrizi and Cinzia Di Pio, both born in Italy and bringing years of experience from running Italian cafes in Sydney and Perth.
In the kitchen, Executive Chef Luca Minetti (ex-Volare and Print Hall) showcases seasonal produce and expert technique, with a menu featuring handmade pasta, fresh seafood, creamy stracciatella, and rich pâté. Pair it all with an excellent wine list and classic cocktails, and you’ve got the makings of a perfect dining experience.
Address: 59 Beachside Drive, Burns Beach

Hiyori
Offering a fresh approach to Japanese dining, Hiyori moves away from the usual traditional segmented menus of sashimi, sushi and yakitori. Instead, you’ll find a refined selection of share plates where local produce is the hero.
Bento boxes here are a step above your usual lunch takeaway—think grilled local cod brushed with house miso, or broiled salmon cured in shio koji. The share plates, meanwhile, are where the kitchen’s attention to detail really shines: aburi scallops rest on pickled wakame and melt in your mouth; butterflied prawns come alive with shio negi; even the mackerel—often considered too strong and oily—is tempered, cut through with a sharp negi shoga sauce.
It’s not all seafood—local futari wagyu arrives alongside a side of miso béarnaise. And don’t miss the roasted white sesame ice cream to finish. Housemade sake and Japanese beer flow alongside a tight edit of local wines.
9 Bradshaw Crescent, Manning

Coming Soon: Bert’s City Beach
A familiar name for those who grew up around City Beach in the 50s and 60s, Bert’s is making waves again in City Beach. Opening later this winter in the former Odyssea site, Bert’s is the latest from the team behind The Rowing Pavilion and General Public.
Part beachside pub, part local hangout, the new venue nods to the original Bert’s Shop—a humble surfside kiosk—with a contemporary fit-out by Woods Bagot and a focus on relaxed, community-driven hospitality. Expect a welcoming space for sandy feet, post-swim snacks, and sundowners by the sea.
Address:187 Challenger Parade, City Beach
The Best New Cafes and Casual Eats in Perth and WA
Coming Soon: Miller + Baker
It’s not uncommon to see lines snaking out the door at Miller + Baker’s Lake Street bakery, but soon, you’ll be able to get your fix at their new North Perth outpost—though we can’t guarantee there won’t be lines out the door there too.
For the uninitiated, baker Mark Taylor got a taste for bread made using freshly milled flour while travelling in Denmark. Unable to find anything like it in Perth, he opened Miller + Baker. Everything at the Lake Street bakery is made in-house—from the flour, milled on site, to the loaves and pastries fresh from the oven.
Each morning, the team will deliver fresh bread and pastries from Lake Street to the new Hobart Street store, along with house-made preserves, pasteurised eggs, organic milk, and the fresh flour they’ve become known for.
Address: 45 Hobart Street, North Perth
Sidepiece Deli
From the crew behind Daisies Cottesloe and The Other Side, Side Piece Deli is the group’s latest opening—landing on Shenton Road in Swanbourne. The new café takes over a corner site with plenty of history, once home to a greengrocer, tearoom, and confectioner.
On the menu? A small-but-mighty lineup. Think hearty deli sandwiches stacked with locally sourced ingredients, fresh pastries baked daily by the in-house team, and Dukes coffee on pour. There’s also an all-day menu that borrows favourites from Daisies and The Other Side, with a few new menu additions thrown in for good measure.
Address: 93 Shenton Road, Swanbourne
Ronnie’s Pizza
From Tom and Matt Shaw, the brothers behind cult burger favourite Hoodburger, comes Ronnie’s, a Scarborough newcomer slinging thick-crust tray pizzas, 12-inch pies and loaded subs. Open since June, it’s already found its place in the neighbourhood, with a menu that leans unapologetically American.
The pizzas channel a Dominos-style lineup—but with a serious quality glow-up. Think pepperoni, meatlovers, Hawaiian and classic cheese, best paired with a Sunkist for full effect.
Subs run from meatball and veal cutlet to a solid eggplant parma, with garlic bread and dipping sauces (hot honey gets our vote) on the side. There’s even a proper tiramisu—if you’ve got room.
Address: 9/241 W Coast Highway, Scarborough

Cantina di Lulu La Delizia
Lulu La Delizia has expanded, adding a 24-seat space right next door to the original. By day, Cantina di Lulu La Delizia is all about five sharp, simple sandwiches—each one a study in restraint and flavour.
Come evening, it shifts into aperitivo mode, with cured meats, olives, a tight drinks list, and a few of Lulu’s cult favourites, like pasta, meatballs, and tiramisu.
We caught up with chef-owner Joel Valvasori to talk opening week, the art on the walls, and what to order first.
Address: 97 Rokeby Road (Forrest Walk), Subiaco

Angelwood Pies
One of the most exciting new openings in Perth this year, Angelwood Pies has already gained a loyal following for a reason. The team includes Richard Overbye—whose fine-dining résumé spans Wildflower, Restaurant Amuse, three-Michelin-starred Maaemo, and Amaru—and Patrick Wallis (ex-Modus Coffee).
Overbye brings his fine-dining lens to the humble pie. The menu changes regularly, with standout fillings like barramundi curry and lamb shank with black olive and polenta. Add in sausage rolls and nostalgic sweets—think melting moments, musk sticks, lamingtons—and you’ve got a suburban bakery with serious clout.
Address: 663 Newcastle Street, Leederville

Mano Wraps
Mano Wraps has made the move south, bringing their buckwheat wraps to Dunsborough. The Busselton-born favourite has opened a second spot inside the new Dunsborough Marketplace, serving up the same sweet and savoury wraps that earned them a loyal following—think prosciutto, eggplant, pesto and fresh La Delizzia burrata, or banana and Nutella, all wrapped in golden buckwheat. They’re also scooping creamy gelato if you’re chasing something cold on the side.
Address: 50 Dunn Bay Road, Dunsborough

Pinos
Pinos is bringing a slice of South America to Subiaco, serving up golden, hand-crafted empanadas packed with bold, traditional flavours. Inspired by the bustling bakeries of Chile, where lines snake out the door for these irresistible pockets of goodness, Pinos is the passion project of husband-and-wife duo Brooke and Axel. From the classic pino beef with merquén spice to slow-cooked peri peri lamb and indulgent BBQ pork with provolone, the menu blends time-honoured flavours with fresh new twists. There’s even a breakfast empanada stuffed with bacon, egg, and cheese, plus plant-based options like the vegan pino.
Address: 137 Rockeby Road, Subiaco
Coming Soon: The Old Shanghai Food Court
It was a blow when Old Shanghai Fremantle closed in 2023—but the much-loved Market Street food hall is set to reopen later this year.
A new leaseholder has signed on with plans to reimagine the space, blending heritage with fresh flavours, updated design, and a renewed focus on community.
Address: 4 Henderson Street, Fremantle
The Best New Bars In Perth and WA
Vintners Wine Bar & McHenry Hohnen Cellar Door
This new Witchcliffe destination pairs one of Margaret River’s most respected wineries with a wine bar designed for serious wine lovers. The rammed-earth space houses both the McHenry Hohnen Cellar Door and Vintners Wine Bar, where over 300 bottles curated by Murray McHenry and winemaker Jacopo Dalli Cani line the list—spanning French and Italian classics, Margaret River icons, and rare back vintages.
In the kitchen, French-born chef Nicolas Delorme (ex-Cape Lodge, La Côte Saint Jacques) brings a Mediterranean sensibility to South West produce, with charcuterie, share plates, wood-fired pizzas and mains built around ingredients from McHenry Farms. Whether you’re dropping in for a tasting, Champagne by the fire, or a long lunch with bottles from the cellar, it’s set to become a jewel of the region.
Address: 10412 Bussell Highway, Witchcliffe

Coming Soon: Yanchep Beach Club
The team behind Hillarys Beach Club and Bar Olé in Iluka are heading further north, with Ryan and Nikki Esqulant set to open Yanchep Beach Club in late November. The 600-square-metre venue—designed in collaboration with Matthew Crawford Architects—will welcome around 300 guests across elegant indoor spaces and a sweeping wraparound alfresco with uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean.
Expect a beach-meets-Amalfi aesthetic, from natural timbers and coastal tones to an eight-metre marble bar, curated interiors by co-owner Nikki Esqulant, and food led by acclaimed chef Steven Finch. Mirroring the successful formula of Hillarys Beach Club, the menu will lean into coastal classics with Italian touches alongside modern pub favourites. With an all-day offering, a private dining room, and a beachside kiosk serving coffee and light bites from 7am, it’s set to become the northern suburbs’ newest coastal destination.
Address: Capricorn Estate, Yanchep
Strange Brew
Skigh Wine has brought a fresh twist to Cowaramup with the opening of Strange Brew, a new lo-fi wine bar. Taking up residence in the former West Winds Tavern, the venue combines a wine bar, bottle shop, and function space, complete with a commercial kitchen catering for up to 300 hungry guests.
Named after one of their most popular wines, Strange Brew offers wines on tap, by the glass or bottle, alongside charcuterie share plates and live DJ sets. Designed to be a lively spot, it’s a place where great wine, music, and community come together.
Address: 29 Hasluck Street, Cowaramup

Deadbeat
The team behind Varnish on King has unveiled Deadbeat—a hair-metal-inspired cocktail and can bar where high-end technique meets full-throttle chaos. Sitting across from Lil’s Rooftop, it brings a more gritty, glam-rock energy to the neighbourhood.
Inside, expect riotous colour, zebra-print sofas, pool tables and classic metal on blast. But behind the madness is serious talent: Operations Manager Adrian ‘Adi’ Ruiz (Bulletin Place, Eau de Vie, The Agrarian Kitchen) brings sharp cocktail craft to the mayhem. Think sensory overload, tight pours and a wild spin of Drink Roulette—no brakes, no apologies.
Address: 440 Murray Street, Perth
Lupes Cerveceria
What do Shui, Margot’s and Papi Katsu have in common? They’re all creations of the Sesh Mafia team, and their latest venture—Lupes Cerveceria—has just opened underground at Brookfield Place. It’s all about fun, cocktails and tequila galore, with an extensive lineup of mezcal, micheladas and signature slushies. The food menu is short but satisfying with tacos, tostadas and taquitos.
