Chow’s Table 2023 Winner

Going on five years, Chow’s is in a nice groove. An assured, confident restaurant from the start, its strengths are in offering a menu that paints far outside the lines of your usual South West fare. That takes guts, but chef Mal Chow (who has experience in such esteemed venues as Tetsuya’s and Vue de Monde) deserves more for sticking with an approach that draws on his Chinese-Malay background, confident that if he did it well, he’d grow an appetite for that style of cooking in the region. Looking at the place today, it’s clear he’s succeeded. Guests eagerly await their bookings, and once there, happily pass around plates of squid toast, duck-fat fried rice, dumplings and glistening roast duck. Add in the class of Nat Parszuto and her team on the floor and Chow’s Table is a package deal. Pull up a chair.
