Frui Momento at Cherubino 2023 Winner
A collaboration between chef Seth James and winemaker Larry Cherubino, Frui Momento landed in Margaret River with plenty of anticipation. It’s certainly stuck the landing. Rather than wed itself to a paddock-to-plate model, Frui draws on the ocean first and foremost, dedicating an excellent section of the menu largely to things from the sea (charred octopus to wrap in seaweed, say). It makes fast friends with a broad, confident wine list and works just as well in the al fresco section as it does inside a building that nods to Tuscany. The menu proper then shows James’s versatility, tying neatly with smart service. Wins all round.
