With Stephen Clarke closing his storied fine-diner, Clarke’s on North Beach, in mid-2022, this award is a chance to reflect on the impact the chef has had on the industry at large. A renowned supporter of emerging talent, advocate for mental health in the industry and leading light in WA fine dining, Clarke’s impact has been felt by countless cooks who’ve graced his kitchen, whether they’re running hatted restaurants like Belinda Barrett at Bar Rochford, rising through the ranks overseas like Brayden Davies at Shaun Rankin, or simply discovering themselves and a newfound passion for the industry right here in Western Australia. Clarke takes out this year’s gong in recognition of his service and leadership, and in anticipation of the mark he’ll make, and already is making, in a new role at Santini Bar & Grill.
