KCH 2021 Winner
At first glance KCH might seem low-key, with grab-your-own cutlery and laminated menus, but this unassuming restaurant in North Perth punches well above its weight. First, there’s chef-owner Calvin Chong, who draws on fine-dining roots. Then there’s the stripped-back space, where the scents and sounds of the woks play soundtrack. There’s the charming service. Then, of course, there’s the cooking, which looks first to Kuching, then to wider Malaysia, presenting staples like char kway teow or Sarawak laksa made with modern sensibilities and adding landmark weekly specials around the edges.
